“Maybe if I edit it a bit …”

me12

For someone who doesn’t like to be photographed, I found more than a few “selfies” on my phone.

Having said that, a lot of what I dislike about being photographed is not feeling in control of my image, so selfies are an obvious solution to that problem.

On the other hand, what I also dislike about being photographed is that I so often end up thinking “I don’t look good here; I don’t want people to think I look like this.”  I don’t know about you, but I really don’t take particularly flattering selfies.

But in the spirit of participation, and aided by my new enthusiasm for photo-editing …

This post was written in response to the Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge. You can find out more and participate here.

And here are some other selfies I enjoyed – amazing how many of us say we don’t like being photographed!

  1. What bothers me is the same thing that bothers me about hearing my voice. I don’t think I sound like that, and everyone else says, “Yes you do!” So if people look at a photo and say, “That’s a really nice picture of you,” and I don’t like it, what do I look like the rest of the time? Ha!

You got me thinking on that one!

  7. You women are too self conscious (spoken by a man who refuses to display a “selfie” on his own blog). You are all beautiful- in your own ways. May I offer a quote from Anna Quindlen, one of my favorite authors, to you all? “After all those years as a woman hearing ‘not thin enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not this enough, not that enough,’ almost overnight I woke up one morning and thought, ‘I’m enough.’ Su Leslie and Jean and any other woman who might read this, “YOU’RE ENOUGH!”

    • Thank you Emilio :-). Oddly, I had a similar moment a few years ago and in “real life” am quite at peace with who I am. But for some reason I don’t feel the same way about photos of me. Perhaps deep down I believe along with some indigenous cultures that photographs capture souls. 🙂
