John Ferguson ‘Blooming Buckets’. Exhibited at NZ Sculpture OnShore, 2014. Photo: Su Leslie, 2014
One of my favourite sculptures from this year’s NZ Sculpture OnShore exhibition, John Ferguson’s wonderful ‘Blooming Buckets.’ Literally made of large plastic buckets mounted on a steel “stem”, this piece is just so colourful and full of joy. Set against the backdrop of Rangitoto Island, it proved to be one of the most memorable and photographed works in the exhibition.

Just delightful, Su !!! ๐ AND in my favourite colour.

Glad you like it. We had a few days of horrible weather during the exhibition and the buckets provided much-needed colour! ๐

Such a fun sculpture. The inside of each bucket looks like a face (to me!) As for the photos…I really like your shot at daybreak!

Isn’t it fun! I love the way the buckets have been “repurposed” to create something so cool.

Now that is a delightful yellow! And it is amazing it remained standing; you would think a good wind would topple it. It was obviously well engineered as well!

It was very well engineered and solidly concreted into the ground. Which is just as well as we had a few days of very high winds and the site is an exposed cliff-top. Very challenging!

I’d loved to have had the chance to see that in real life, but by sharing your pictures, you’ve given me the next best thing. Thanks!
