I seem to have developed a habit of photographing shop windows. I’ve only recently become aware of this, and have been thinking about it quite a lot. I think it’s because I love the interplay of items placed and framed deliberately — often with great care and at great expense — against the totally random nature of the world reflected in the glass.
Is it street photography? Abstraction? Or in the case below, self-portrait?

These are brilliant!! Especially the first one. Though they are are on the street, I would definitely call them abstract. π

Thanks Amanda; I like the way they work on different levels.

Terrific, really adore them all. The best part of each is the layers to be enjoyed and interpreted. Very nice set of images. It’s a tie between one and three for my favorite. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thank you; I love the fact I could have stood in the same place for hours and had so many different images. I was tempted, especially in Oxford Street — but the boy-child had other ideas π

Great photos! I love photographing shop windows too — the layers, as you said, and also just wondering who thinks up such creative designs, what kind of job is it, etc. I come home from each trip with a couple of dozen window shots.

Thanks. I know what you mean about the content of the windows themselves. I tend to photograph shop windows when I’m away from home, and it’s seeing something unusual or clever that gets me started. I guess the reflections are a happy by-product of not getting it “quite right” in terms of shooting the displays. π

Aren’t they fantastic. The looked like muslin cloth over a wire frame. I took the photo thinking I’d try to figure out how to make some. I loved the shop windows in Bordeaux and Munich; quite different styling to what I’m used to seeing here in NZ. π

Now I am intrigued and wondering what is considered stylish in NZ…..

Hi Janet. Home now, but had a wonderful time. We already have “itchy feet” and are wondering where to go next!

I love them all. I have taken a few photos of windows too. It gives an eerie feel to the images by having layers to them. Love your selfie.

I love these – especially the change of cities/countries in the background. As you say different layers! I’d love to see some Aukland windows (hint, hint). π
