The Big T and I headed out of Auckland for the day to visit Hamilton Gardens (voted International Garden of the Year 2014). A four hour round trip — but totally worth it.

Six Word Saturday: out of town for the day

    • Hi Leslie, thanks. Yeah, it was a pretty overcast day. I think the Italian and Indian garden definitely looked the best of the lot because they both had so many colourful flowers. With most of the other themed gardens, their beauty was more subtle and got a bit lost in the general greyness. Still, it’s an excuse to visit again. đŸ™‚

    • Hehe. Hamilton Gardens contain a dozen or so themed gardens; Italian, Chinese, Japanese, English Country, Modernist, Tudor, etc, contained within the larger park. It’s not a botanic garden as such, but, according to the website “its concept acknowledges there is a story to tell about gardens, their development over time and across cultures, and their use.” Such a cool place; I’m really keen to go back again soon and explore some more.

    • I didn’t even get to the Rose garden. We were in Hamilton to see a photo exhibition by some friends, and the Garden visit was an “extra”. It was so good, I’m really keen to go back again soon.
