Leanne at Nihongojapango challenged me to participate in 3 days, 3 quotes and I’ve decided to share lyrics from songs by Billy Bragg — one of my favourite song-writer/performers.
I saw two shooting stars last night I wished on them but they were only satellites Is it wrong to wish on space hardware I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care-- New England, Billy Bragg
This was probably the most difficult quote to choose. I could pretty much have taken a line from any of the love songs he’s written because they all speak to me of some time in my life, or in the lives of those I’m close to.
Part of this challenge is to invite three other bloggers to contribute. But today I’m just going to suggest that anyone who’d like to share their favourite quotes — please do so.
How intriguing! Is it wrong to wish on space hardware? There really is no reason why it should be wrong, but somehow it doesn’t feel right.

π yes, it’s as though it’s somehow cheating. As though wishing on something that looks like a star but isn’t a real star will somehow nullify the wish. Superstition is fascinating!

Wonderful picture. Space hardware already carries the wishes of its builders and users β so why not add a few more.

Love this. I love it when someone does something which chimes in with who I am. Quirky, different, marching to a different drum. Its like finding someone who likes Steve Reich’s music and does not say ‘ I am getting a headache’….:)

Hi Karen. I’m so glad you liked it. I don’t know Steve Reich’s music well, and minimalist music mainly through the influence on some of Ryuchi Sakamoto’s piano/cello pieces. I started listening to 18 Musicians again just now and it got me thinking about a post I’d started to write about Bach and never finished. Oh how the mind works π

I am going to check out some of Billy Bragg’s Music on my day off! Thanks for participating Sue. I really enjoyed your posts. They got me thinking about lyrics and really listening the words instead of just humming along.

No; but he and Elvis Costello have a bit of a monopoly over a particular phase of my life.

No problem Raewyn. I’m always a bit ambivalent to ask and totally understand when people are busy. I hope things are ok with you and you’ve settled in. All the best with the legal processes; Kia kaha nga mihi nui.

Great picture! I also like the version of this song by the late, great Kirsty McColl.

π Yes, I think Kirsty McColl really made that song her own. When I think of it, I tend to hear her voice singing it.
