Apologies to anyone who has seen these before, but I have been thinking about children and reading since Leanne at Nihongojapango posted some wonderful photos of a little one enjoying his books, and Janet at This, That and The Other Thing wrote a very funny post about her reading addiction.
And of course books are also this week’s Travel Theme at Where’s My Backpack.
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful photos! I think instilling a love of books and reading is one of the top parental obligations after making sure they are fed, clothed, and sheltered!

I agree. And I suspect if you asked my son, he’d tell you I put reading alongside food and before everything else. We spent more than a few mornings snuggled up under a blanket with a pile of books; still in our pyjamas. 😀

Lovely photos! We have several of those little DK books from when my oldest was little. They are still favorites around here.

😀 I had a huge clean up recently and carefully packed away several boxes of his baby books. He insists on keeping a whole bunch of books from his later childhood on the shelves, and does sometimes re-read them.

Those are fabulous! Such joy in books warms my librarian heart.

😀 Libraries were one of his favourite places. One children’s librarian in particular became almost a friend and he’d seek her out years after we stopped going to the toddler story-time session she ran!

I haven’t seen these before, Su, they are lovely. They remind me of when my children were that age.

I posted them a while ago, but I do love them so much. There is such joy to be had in watching children grow up with books; knowing they have been given entry to worlds beyond their own imaginings, and food for their dreams.

No, I’ve never seen these photographs before and I love them! How precious, that adorable smile and peeking up at the camera. 🙂

Hahaha, I hope he never reads your blog or comments lol
But I know what you mean, Emily brought down her old favourite Teddy Bear today and I was instantly thrown back about 16 years to her as a baby clutching that bear. Tears almost came to my eyes. 🙂

Don’t you wish we could put moments like this in a jar so we could take them out and play them whenever we wish? The only thing better than babies at play are babies soaking up books with unabashed enthusiasm.

That’s a lovely thought Mary. I do so miss that time in his life when he was discovering the world with such enthusiasm, and I got to share in that. Nothing like spending time with a very young child to see the world through new eyes. 🙂
