I began this year thinking that I’d like to learn how to take better photos of people, and even posted a few images I’d captured of the boy-child (Portrait #1).
Well, the intention hasn’t gone away, but I remain a bit nervous about asking friends to pose for me. So, last weekend when the Big T came back from mountain-biking in the rain, I knew I had a perfect subject for portrait #2.
The second photo of Big T looks like a passport photo. I like the smile one.

Hehe. I did ask him to smile, but he was really playing with the “I’m so tough …” line. And he is such a naturally good-natured person, it is interesting to see him without a smile.

He looks tough without the smile, but that smile sweetens him up.

Big T is a great model, well done, Su Leslie! Mountain-bike-riding is not for us, shiver. 😉

Thank you. It’s not for me either. My willingness to get on a bicycle pretty much ended when we stopped being able to ride along a tow path to the pub! We used to live the Grand Union canal — flat land and lots of pubs! Nowadays I am much happier on two feet than two wheels. Thanks; Su.

Well, that makes five of us then. 😊
Between us, Kb feels so uncomfortable on a bike, he begins to stumble at the thought of mounting a bike and North Norfolk with the winding narrow country lanes being very bike- unfriendly, well, what shall I say; all our bikes ended up in a charity shop. Don’t give me away, will you? 🙃😅 🚵🏼🚴
Luckily, the next pub is just a short walk away. 😊

Me too. He walked in, completely caked in mud and just said that! 🙂

Must have been some ride! The contrast between the two photos (and also the contrast in each photo) is really interesting.

Thanks. He’s a big kid when it comes to riding, so I imagine he had sought out some mud and a few slippery slopes.

I’ve seen my husband looking similarly bedecked. In fact last night, he went on a ride with some other members of the bike club and it started raining not long after they started. They finished the ride a couple hours later and he was completely soaked and sporting a bit of mud when he got home. 🙂

Don’t they just remind you of little kids when they’re like that. I love to see him post-ride: he always looks so happy.

Great images Su, capturing the character of people isn’t easy.

Thanks Julie. I think that’s a huge part of my reluctance to photograph people. Less of a problem with my”nearest and dearest” I guess.
