Most days for the last week or so, my part of Greenhithe has been enveloped in morning mists, giving even the most suburban landscapes a serene, other-worldly quality.
Behind the mist, people are getting ready for whatever their day holds. In a way, we all live behind the mist; our lives seen only in outline by those who pass by.
Today’s New Zealand Music Month link-up song is Forever Tuesday Morning, a 1984 hit for The Mockers. It’s a song about lost love, with the line “without you my life’s gonna be forever Tuesday morning” repeated over and over.
It’s an incredibly catchy song; the tempo kind of at odds with the melancholy lyrics. It’s a song I find myself singing over and over in the car. I do wonder sometimes what other drivers think.
Lovely shots … ethereal.

A very interesting observation – “we all live behind the mist; our lives seen only in outline by those who pass by”. I think I’m going to be holding on to that thought for a while.
I really like the first photo with that fuzzy tree. What kind of tree is that? It looks like something out of a Dr Seuss story 🙂

It’s a cabbage tree (Ti Kouka in Maori) — and it does look very Seussian! Apparently parts of it are edible, so perhaps that why European settlers gave it that name.

haha! That is a very unusual name for a tree that doesn’t appear to look like a cabbage at all! 🙂

Perhaps it’s a taste thing? Or maybe it smells like boiled cabbage. I must admit I’d find the prospect of eating it more appealing if it had been called a broccoli tree — or a Swiss Chard tree perhaps

I love all 3 so it’s all good to me … although admittedly the smell of cabbage or broccoli cooking isn’t quite so pleasant 😉

Su, mist/fog makes for not only beautiful photos, but a sort of insular, alone feel which is very enjoyable, at least for a time.

I agree. Walking on these mornings has been a real pleasure. And when I do meet someone else, there is a little moment of uncertainty as they appear from the gloom.

Su, your photos are so beautiful! What kind of tree is that in the first shot? The cluster of trees close to the center. The song is cracking me up. I was doing about three things when I hit play and didn’t notice the heading with the date and I thought “This sounds like about 1985.” I was so close. There really is an unmistakable quality to music from that time period. 🙂

You are SO right about 80s music! The tree is called a cabbage tree — Ti Koura in Maori. Apparently parts of it are edible, and since it doesn’t look much like cabbage, I assume that the name came from the taste or textural similarities? Happy Weekend!

It is a lovely tree. I’ve never seen anything like it. Thanks for the info!
