An apology, an explanation and a song

First things first; apologies to you all my blogging whanau. I have been pretty random in both posting and engaging with you lately. I’ve been neither fully absent nor fully engaged and that’s not a situation I’ve wanted to be in.

So an explanation. It’s so simple it’s almost funny. I haven’t been able to sit down comfortably at my computer for a few weeks. I have a couple of old injuries to my tail-bone which bother me every now and then, but I’ve been “too busy” to pay attention to the warning signs my body was sending out.

Yesterday I stood up too quickly and got stuck half way, unable to straighten my spine without the kind of pain that brings out the worst excesses of my somewhat colourful vocabulary.

Ironically, at the time I was re-organisng my office accommodate the standing desk that the Big T has kindly (and speedily and skillfully) built for me.

After a visit to the chiropractor and a day at my new desk, I am a convert. I’ve even incorporated a balance board to stand on while I work. Talk about multi-tasking!

And the song. It’s all in the title really. I’m a huge fan of Eilen Jewell‘s. Hope you like it.

    • Thanks Anabel. She toured here earlier in the year and in my usual disorganised manner, I didn’t find out until it was too late. But on the other hand I have a love-hate relationship with live music events, so perhaps it was for the best. I get bored and the Big T gets frustrated with my boredom …

        • Hehe. I’ve found that I’m an incredibly visual person, and watching musicians play isn’t engaging enough for me. It’s a terrible admission to make, as I do recognise that many have a great stage presence, but I still get bored. 😦

  1. Yes, glad indeed to hear that you’ve been chiropractered and you’ve found a work solution. I had a couple of injuries in that area too, and now you mention same, I realise I’ve not noticed them at all lately. I made myself a standing desk with a DJs laptop stand – v. simple frame, made of cast iron and with variable heights and cheap on eBay. I think it’s called a gorilla stand.

  2. Ouch! That sounds painful! So glad things improved – chiropracticions are so awesome!! I get back pains also, and of course also from sitting at the computers. Sadly my chiroprac retired last year 😦 The song is fantastic!! Didn´t know her before but will change that immediately! 🙂 Also checked out The Fleet Foxes – AMAZING! Love them totally 😀 Thank you so much for helping me expand my music universe! Have a great day, Su! xoxo

    • Glad you’re enjoying the music. I love it when people introduce me to new musicians, as I tend to work in silence and don’t explore music as much as I could. Chiropractors rock! My son’s godfather is one, as is his wife and a couple of their friends, so I am very spoiled for choice. xx 🙂

      • Same over here, really. I never thought I would be that kind of person, when I was a teen I discovered new bands every other week or so! 😉 Now I mostly stick to my favourites but am also always eager to be introduced to new ones!
Ahh, I see – you´re totally blessed and surrounded with those chiro rockstars 😉 I totally envy you 😉 xoxo

  3. I’m glad to hear the changes are helping. I’ve been using my new ergonomc chair just a few days and having proper lumbar support and leg height is amazing after sitting on a kitchen chair for years. Tailbone pain is not nice, ouch! No doubt Big Stu is a handy bloke! I have no idea what a balance board is, so I shall google. 🙂

  4. I feel your pain. Or, at least, something similar. A week of hotel mattresses and today I’ve woken up like a shepherd’s crook. (No, not wanting to herd sheep, what made you think that? Oh, the pain. Right.) anyway, hope you get straightened out soon!
