Maybe it’s my Scottish Presbyterian childhood, but I hate waste.
I compost, recycle, re-use, re-purpose. Every few days I feel compelled to empty the fridge of left-overs, which makes for some interesting (but usually tasty enough) meals.
Why am I telling you this?
When I was thinking of a post for Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge, it occurred to me that — however silly it may sound — I have the same approach to my photos. Shots that don’t quite work but aren’t completely dud have a tendency to end up in the digital equivalent of the “you never know, it might come in handy someday” box.
Which I guess makes photo-editing tools the mechanism for turning digital leftovers into something … um, tasty? Or at least fun.

These are beautiful. I particularly like the first one. You have inspired me to try photographing feathers some time.

Do! It’s amazing to see such tiny structures blown up on a screen.

What fun, Su! I keep a lot of odds and ends of photos but haven’t really done much editing with them. What I really need to do is get them better organized, a daunting task! These are lovely. Play on! (And share.)

Thanks Janet. It’s the organising bit that I stumble over. I have a “system” but I am much better at devising systems than following them. 🙂

Su, they are lovely and, yes, fun. Your play gives them an even greater lightness of being that exudes cheer in nature’s bounty. Happy Photo Challenge.

Thank you so much Sally. Remembering to play and seek enjoyment from the simple things seems even more important these days.

Sure glad you didn’t just toss these out!

Hehe. I’ve just um, “tidied” my photo archive and deleted 1200 images! Now to rationalise the back-up before I have to buy a bigger hard-drive.

Funny–I did a big back-up today. The thought of culling things is depressing. These are my genealogy files, and I know I must have so many duplicates and stray files…

I need to tidy my family history files too! I’m sure I have multiple copies of lots of documents.

I too have a you-never-know attitude to photos that don’t quite measure up. It never occurred to me to play with photo editing tools to get creative with them. The feathers really lent themselves to experimentation, didn’t they? I love, love, love the first one!!

Thanks Joanne. Yes, the shot worked so well as an experiment!
