Monarch chrysalis. Protected from the wind in the Big T’s butterfly shelter. This is the second chrysalis he’s rescued from the wild weather, and hopefully this one will also emerge a butterfly soon.
Thanks Sarah. We’re hopeful too. The last one survived despite the odds, and I think this one has a better chance because it’s been less disrupted. xxx
Oh my goodness, I looked at this photo originally and thought what a beautiful necklace, then I see it’s Mother Nature just doin’ her thing – how glorious!
So beautiful, and how amazing to have a shelter for them. Not sure I could ever leave it . . . I’d just be sitting there waiting for it to emerge!!

Just outside our back door. We’re out there multiple times a day “just checking” ๐

Need a video camera that bleeps at the first crinkle of life! How long does it take them to emerge and then dry their wings?

Isn’t it cool. I think chrysalis are the most amazing things and I’m mesmerised by their development.

Hi Joanne; wouldn’t a chrysalis-design make a fabulous necklace? I love the contrast between the bright green and gold flecks.

That’s true Amy. I’m grateful and humbled by how much beauty I find even (literally) in my own backyard.
