It was the boy-child’s 19th birthday yesterday, so I made him this chocolate raspberry cake to share with friends and workmates.
I’m not a particularly confident cake-maker, but am told this one went down well.

oooh – a piece of that would be perfect right now. Yes, I know it’s only 7 am in my world. What’s the point? 🙂

Nothing wrong with cake got breakfast. I draw the line at icecream — and beer. The big t and a Czech friend once “made breakfast” and it turned out to be slices of Vienetta and beer.

I draw the line at beer too. Bubbly? Yes. Baileys? Yes. Beer? Nay.

Ooh. I haven’t tried Bailey’s for breakfast. 🙂

Drat! He didn’t save any for me. Looks delightfully delicious, Su. Well done!

Nor me either. Though in my case, my hips and dodgy knees are thanking him. 🙂

Well Happy Birthday to the boy-child. That is one delicious looking cake!

Su, I can feel the pounds piling on after that one. How did you make the white ganache? White chocolate is my favourite. When I make dark chocolate ganache I use 35% cream and chocolate chips.

Hehe; it was pretty rich! The ganache was 250g White chocolate and one cup of cream. If I make that cake again, I’d mix a bigger proportion of the ganache with berries to creat more filling, and just drizzle the rest on top.

Looks tasty! We have that same birthday coming up in April for my oldest… I’m not ready for that. 🙂

The boy-child got a job in his “gap year” that he loved and decided not to go to university. Then he moved into a flat half way through last year, so this last birthday has felt quite different to all the others. 🙂

Oh I bet! Mine is gone as well and we won’t be celebrating together in person. That will be weird.

Oh of course. He is away on his mission. I hope you’ll be able to Skype him.

We only get to Skype on Christmas and Mother’s Day so it will be pretty low-key. I have some great plans for gifts and of course he can send photos and video and emails so it’s not so bad. 🙂

Raspberry and chocolate are a perfect match. Shame he didn’t invite me over to share a slice.

Despite my hints, he didn’t save me a slice either. 🙂

You shall have to bake another one then so we can all have a slice 😉

Even though it would mean being one year older already, I would love to get that lovely cake for my birthday too!! 🙂 Totally deliciousness! I say it again: you´re my kitchen goddess! xxx

Thank you. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out so well. Bread I am happy making (as you know) but my track record with cakes is not that great. This was a really easy recipe though, so I will make it again. 🙂
