Impatiens grow wild on the boundary of our property; strong, hardy bushes that reach upwards of a metre and would take over the garden if we let them.
Still, they do provide a welcome burst of winter colour.

Love that first image, Su!

Beautiful! I love impatiens but have never seen them on a bush growing wild, just as annuals I plant each spring.

Thanks Amy. They are like weeds here. I keep chopping the bush back, and it keeps returning. I had a look out the window before and I was wrong; it’s not a metre tall — more like 2m!

I wouldn’t mind a few wild impatiens. I have such a struggle to keep mine alive.

I guess they must really like the Greenhithe climate.

Lovely photos, I am so fascinated by the difference between impatiens in New Zealand and here on my porch. I can get them to be quite large by the end of summer, but it’s lots of work and they could never take over anything. Of course, I am in the desert here. 😉

I’m guessing they really like water and/or shade. The grow in the shady part of my garden and thrive in winter when it’s cooler and rains more.

Yes, they do love shade and water. I water well and often, but it’s so hot and the air is so dry that they aren’t the least bit invasive here.
