Or perhaps traverses a leaf?
I picked our remaining grapefruit this morning, and found this little creature on a leaf. Not welcome near my vegetable garden, I found it a new home amongst the ferns and Pittosporum in the farthest corner of the yard.

I’ve heard it said that snails can travel relatively far to find their way home. I hope yours settles down away from the veg.

So do I. Maybe I should have turned it around a few times to disorient it.

Aren’t you lucky to be able to pick your own grapefruit.

Yes, I love having citrus trees. The lemons are ripe now, and we’ve had all the mandarins and oranges.

Not my best friend for sure. Hope he keeps away from your veggies! His English cousins have eaten most of mine this summer…

His family have really enjoyed my kale and since that’s about all I’ve got growing at the moment, I’m not impressed.

The snails in my yard are gigantic and voracious. I’m usually not a killer of anything, but after two years of devastation, I’ve had to kill them when I find them. Sad. They are so interesting to watch.

Oh I’m freaking out at the thought of giant snails! They are amazing creatures.

My littlest one went through a cute snail collecting phase two summers ago. He kept them in a metal lunch pail and would get them out for “races” – he had been watching the cartoon movie Turbo you see. It was so hard for me because it was quite cruel but I couldn’t convince him that it was mean but at the same time I didn’t want them devastating my yard… He would line them up on the driveway for a race and they would move the fastest I have ever seen snails move, which is still monumentally slow, as soon as they had moved out of their straight line formation he would pick them up and line them up again. I’m sure they were terrified. Poor things. Now he thinks they are gross.
