        • What a lovely gift! Manuka honey used to be kind of second-rate here because it was strong-tasting and people didn’t really like it. Now that the magical medical properties have been discovered, it has become incredibly expensive, farmers are ripping out bits of forest to plant manuka trees and worst of all, people are stealing the honey from hives. It’s crazy. 🙂

          • I´ve read once that before it was known for its properties, the NZ farmers used to feed their cows with it! Those must have been pretty healthy cows 😉 I wonder what their milk tasted like! 😀
            That they´ve started ripping out bits of forest to plant Manuka makes me sad though. Of course I understand its appeal but there never comes anything good from eliminating trees…

          • I can believe that (about the cows). I agree that it’s not a good thing to destroy any habitat in order to plant something new — especially a mono-crop. Greed is such a destructive force. 🙂
