The kowhai tree in our garden has begun to blossom this week. As more and more flowers emerge, hopefully the tui and kereru will return to feed on them.

A shrub in the pea family apparently. They do produce pod-like bits which fall in my vege patch and I tend to think of as just annoying. 🙂

Thanks Leslie. Kowhai apparently is a member of the pea family (Fabaceae). The flowers are informally regarded as our national flower.:-)
