🙂 I can understand that. We seem to have more and more each year. I fear it’s because of habitat loss as so much of the surrounding land is stripped for in-fill housing. Our little neighbourhood is old enough to have mature trees, and quite a few natives. Visually a treat, but frightening if that’s the reason.

Kowhai is one of my favourite flowers because my parents had a MASSIVE tree in the back of their Christchurch garden, it had so many flowers each year it was amazing. Lovely to see such a beautiful photo of it to bring back some fond memories. Now I’m starting to wonder if I could grow one here in the Netherlands !
I found an app! I haven’t downloaded it cos my iPad is pretty old and pretty full and my phone is almost prehistoric. The resources I found that work on PC aren’t all that good. I’ll keep looking and maybe ask Santa for a new iPad 🙂
Kowhai is informally our national flower. The word means yellow in Maori. Native birds love them, and we’re really enjoying having them around to watch and listen to.

Really beautiful! Does it have a scent? Reminds me of a flower back in my country of Myanmar called Magnolia champaca.

I just looked up Magnolia champaca, and I can see a resemblance. Kowhai isn’t scented though, and it sounds like your tree is very fragrant. 🙂

Thank you. It’s native to NZ and I don’t know if there are similar plants in other countries.

Ours seemed to take forever to flower, but is prolific now. And a wonderful Tui magnet!!!!
