In Melbourne last week I visited the exhibition, The House of Dior: Seventy Years of Haute Couture, at the National Gallery of Victoria.

I haven’t been yet. Thinking about it though before it closes in a couple of days. I went to the Valentino one a few years ago and absolutely adored it.

The NGV not only hosts great exhibitions, but stages them well too. The Dior is particularly good in that respect. Pity the lighting is quite dim and it’s difficult to get good photos.

It’s always the way! I only visit a lot of the attractions in Auckland when I’m showing them to out of town visitors. 😃

Thanks. I totally agree. I’ve seen a few fabulous exhibitions at the NGV. And of course, the Leonard French window is always worth time spent lying under it.

It would have taken me hours to get through. All the details in your photo are interesting. I am not a fashion person, but this is art.

Ironically, I would have spent longer if it had been less busy and I’d been able to spend more uninterrupted time with each exhibit. I’m not really into fashion either, but you’re right — the staging and the garments were art!

The red coral on the bracelet was very “in” then. Now, it is illegal to harvest.

None of the photos is particularly great because of the lighting, but I can probably find enough for a post. I’m still buzzing from the exhibition.

I wish! I’d love something like that, but with my lifestyle, the only time I’d get to wear it would be to do the grocery shopping or something. Fun thought though!

Yes, I was in fabulousness heaven for a couple of hours. The original 1940s outfits were amongst the best (and the most wearable).

I think you would. Apart from about 150 amazing Dior outfits, there were hats and shoes — and the actual staging was totally amazing. 🙂
