These aren’t local sadly. I found them in Tairua on the eastern side of the Coromandel. There were beds and beds of the tiniest shells I’ve ever seen. The white turban-y one is exactly 2cm long (I just measured it).
Yes; I hadn’t realised how relaxing until the Big T and I had a beachfront apartment on holiday recently. We found ourselves totally content to sit on outside reading and just watching/listening to the sea.
I have some of those shells on the left. Don’t think I have on of those on the right side of the photo. Nature can be so creative, beautiful Su.

We don’t get shells like that here. In fact I rarely see ANY shells on the beaches I visit.

I was wondering if it was just the north Cornish coast that is without shells. All I see there are mussel shells.

I get that. They’re a tangible reminder of beach walks and solitude for me.

Definitely! I also imagine the lull of the waves breaking. It’s a sound I find absolutely relaxing.

I haven’t seen any of these on local beaches. I guess they are all sea snails, but I haven’t been able to find out which species.
