I can spend hours watching them … well until the end of the breeding season when the smell and noise of the colony gets a bit much.

Aren’t they a photogenic species/ love the blue eyes. Our gannets here in the Cape are in trouble with their numbers decreasing – IUCN ‘vulnerable’ status. How are the numbers over your way Su?

They are lovely and so engaging to watch. Our colonies seem to be doing ok. I only visit one, and despite the fact that it’s become a “tourist destination” the birds seem to be thriving. So sad to hear that your local populations are threatened. 😦
