Another session photographing my friend Claire‘s studio. She was teaching a class, but until I have permission from the women attending to post images of them, here are a few of Claire and the minutiae of the studio.

Five Minutes of Random (the #RegularRandom challenge) is hosted by Desley Jane at Musings of a Frequently Flying Scientist.

If you’d like to join in:

  • choose a subject or a scene
  • spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
  • try to see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
  • tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to Desley’s post
  • have fun!

  1. So interesting that the person is in black & white, whilst the art uses colour.
Might I ask how you decided? I think I understand what might have motivated ~ to emphasise the art, which is application of colour so should be in colour. Am just curious!

    • 😀 I always intend to shoot photos every day, but more often than not, don’t, so I like challenges, which encourage me to think about, and shoot something. I didn’t quite follow the brief on this one, not focusing on a single stationary subject.

    • She does! Her classes become like an art club, with women going germ after term. She’s made the studio not only a creative space, but a safe one where people feel they can take creative risks and expose their vulnerabilities.

  2. Great shots, Su! It’s awesome seeing your friend at work in her natural environment. 😊 Especially interesting to see her works in progress and the colours she’s using. Will she use your pictures for her homepage? She definitely should! 😊 xxxxxxxx

    • Thank you. Claire’s really rewarding to photograph and I always love being in the studio.
It’s interesting that her colour palette has changed a bit lately. She used to work in dark earth tones and phthalo turquoise, then had a long phase of using very pale, almost pastel tones. Now she’s doing work that is almost monochrome, but with the deep turquoise shades in some work too. I am liking this very much (I wasn’t crazy about the pastel phase).
She’s posting some of the shots on her social media accounts, and we’ll go through them all at the end of the project and decide which will go on the website, etc. xxxxxx
