The Changing Seasons, March 2018

One of the things I enjoy about the Changing Seasons project is how it encourages me to reflect (usually at length) on the month that has gone. Sometimes, there seems to be a theme, or some sort of unifying imagery to the time-period. Other times, it’s just a bunch of random days.

March seems very much the latter.

My garden continues to be a source of great pleasure, not to mention edible treats. Colder temperatures and increased rainfall have not only helped the plants to thrive, but provided some nice photographic moments.

Otherwise, life has been lived off-camera. The Big T’s birthday occasioned some nice meals out and trip to the theatre (1984 — highly recommended).

The boy-child started university and has risen to the challenge of study, work and some personal dramas.

And despite my love of our garden, the Big T and I recognise that it really is time for us to move on. Our house is too big and we no longer have any practical or emotional ties to this area.

We have begun interviewing real estate agents and looking at properties to buy. A trip to Whangarei Heads last weekend allowed us to largely cross one potential “new home” area off the list — despite finding a very cool piece of cliff-top for sale.

We’ve talked about moving often over the years, and usually found reasons to stay put so neither of us is exactly holding our breath this time.

But who knows.

    • Thanks Joanne. I’m glad that the Big T and I agree on it, but it hasn’t made the process any faster. We’ve got to this point before, and there always seems to be something that’s kept us here.

  10. I adore your red coffee pot and cup and saucer! As for moving. Well… I wouldn’t buy a plot close to the edge of a cliff that’s for sure, here our cliffs have a habit of falling into the sea. But I would love to live within walking distance to a beach. My OH looks at me in horror when I mention that perhaps this isn’t our final home.

    • Thanks Marilyn. The dream is to buy land and build an eco house so that we don’t have huge bills and lots of maintenance to deal with when we’re older. T is incredibly handy (he is an engineer) and we’ve both done lots of DIY, so we kind of know what we can do and what we need the professionals for.
      But of course, all that is dependent on leaving here first 🙂

  17. Good luck with the house search. Is it going to be a tree or sea change? I worked for Barfoot and Thompson the real estate agents in Auckland in the 1980’s I assume they are still in business. I actually love looking at houses. Will be back next week with my March reflections.

    It’s a monthly gallery that contains a photo-per-day produced in that month.
