Like many in the WP community, I’m sad and a little disappointed at the demise of the Daily Post Photo Challenge. It’s been instrumental not only in helping me develop my own photographic skills and confidence, but more importantly, in introducing me to a huge number of amazing bloggers.
I wouldn’t say that the shot above is an absolute favorite image, but it’s one of the earliest I ever posted to a challenge, and it does still make me smile.
It reminds me how different life was five years ago. My boy-child was 15, and although he was happy to spend time with his parents, he was already looking beyond us to a world of his own making.
Spectacular photo!

Hi Su, your photo reminded me of a picture I had taken of my wife at the Oregon Coast also as a silhouette. The link below is from my flickr photo stream.

Why was it discontinued? Beautiful image of your boy at such an important stage in his life.

I don’t know. It’s happened very sudden,y and without much explanation 🤨

Strange. But I know you will have no problem finding things to photograph.

That’s true. And more often than not, I ended up using archive photos for the challenges anyway. I really liked seeing how others responded to the same prompts — there were always some really creative posts.

I am also sad about the decision to end the daily challenge and other features offered to the WordPress community. I truly hope they will decide to introduce something to replace them. 😦

It’s a wonderful shot, Su! And I’m also sad these challenges have stopped although I’ve never participated. But I enjoyed looking at all the entries by you and our fellow bloggers. And I’m sure there will something similar coming up in the future. Xxxxxx

I have never participated in any of WP challenges, and I don’t understand how they work, but I do hope to see your photographs in the future as I am getting back to normal after my long absence. It is sad that WP has discontinued a popular feature 😦

Thank you so much. I will still keep posting photos. It’s more that I enjoy the camaraderie of the challenges, and am really surprised that it was cancelled suddenly and without warning.

Yes, it is very strange. Were any other challenges cancelled too?

Too bad you don’t have girls too, like I do, they’re more inclined to let photos be taken. Actually I have one (who will go nameless) who is more than happy to pose! LOL

Hehe. I could never imagine myself with daughters. I come from a family of boys, had male cousins and friends and worked with mainly men. It’s only as I’ve got older that I’ve developed female friendships.
I always “knew” I was carrying a boy and when the ultrasound technician at one of the early scans said she thought it was a girl, I felt very strongly she was wrong. Even when he was born, it never occurred to me to ask the sex.

That’s so cool. I too have always had mostly male friends and coworkers. But I was adamant to have two daughters for some reason. And like you, I “knew” both my kids were girls!

😀 my mother was so convinced my youngest brother was going to be a girl, she had her sisters send her lots of frilly little baby clothes from the UK. Oops!
