This ornamental kale is so pretty; such a shame it’s not edible.

Fab kale shots, Su, but many thanks too for the Mollie Katzen link. Not only did I find a good recipe to add to my collection of ‘what to do with too many courgettes’, but also a recipe including quinoa that G might actually eat while using up the bag that’s sitting unopened in my cupboard. Brilliant!

Thanks Tish. I’m glad you found some good recipes. The courgette glut is always a tough one to deal with, and a good quinoa recipe is a definite bonus. I’ll have to have another look at her site!

To be honest, is any kale edible?
At least this one would look nice in the garden. (Lovely shots, Su.)

I can’t be the only person who likes kale? 😀

I used to but an abundant crop and the insistence of my OH in planting it three seasons in a row along with constant battles with munching green caterpillars took a shine off its attraction as a food source.

I understand that. I only grow a little bit at a time; and haven’t figured out how to beat the caterpillars yet. It went up in my estimation when I discovered it’s really good in a salad with grapefruit and avocado. The grapefruit juice sort of cooks it ceviche-style.

You’re not! I love kale. Could eat it every day. I also love cavolo nero is also known as Tuscan kale or more commonly black kale or black cabbage which is related to kale. But then I love cabbage and even Brussels sprouts!!

😀😀 a woman after my own heart!! Big yes to all of the above (especially Brussel sprouts — why do people hate them?) I found a few years ago that my body likes me much better when I feed it lots of brassicas.

I like kale too! 😉 Too bad these beauties aren’t edible though, it would look stunning on a plate. 😊

Ornemental kale is so pretty. We use a lot of it here in the early winter gardens. I didn’t know it was inedible.

It is lovely. I must have seen it before and just not paid attention, but yesterday I was really drawn to it. I assumed it would be edible, but perhaps not that tasty. The sign said not edible, but perhaps that’s to stop people stealing it. 🤔

Gorgeous. It looks as though it should be delicious. I guess looks are deceptive.

Friend Google tells me it is edible, but very bitter and should be boiled and the water discarded. Hm. I must admit it didn’t appeal to me as food; the crinkly texture of green kale without the promise of all the goodness we’re told green veggies have.

Hmmm. I’ll stick to regular kale!
