Lens Artists Photo Challenge | blue
The post title comes from the Roy Orbison song ‘When the Blue Hour Comes.’
The good times are all gone
The night keeps coming on so strong
You can’t hold on, no matter what you do
Will there be someone who cares for you
When the blue hour comes?
When the blue hour comes?
And when your restless heart
Tears your world apart
And everywhere you turn
It’s falling down on you
Will there be a light that shines for you?

I couldn’t find a recording of Orbison singing it, but I do like this version by Joan Osborne.
I love the color and I feel the sensation of being sucked into the shot headed towards the horizon.

Thanks Janet. I’ve been hankering after a shot of the silo for a while. 😀

Thanks so much Amanda. I work best in silence, but every now and then music pops into my head and I feel the need for a proper soundtrack to my day. Hope you’re feeling better btw. 😀

I tend to work the same way. Thanks for the support, I’m hanging in there. 😀

Interesting-never heard that song before. Very clever Su!

Thanks Tina. I think it’s a really old one, and obviously not a huge hit since I can’t find a recording of him singing it.

Thanks Yvette😀😀 I often find myself making connections between photos and music. I’m not much of a musician, so I see others’ musical talent as a very special kind of magic. 😀

That’s a magnificent shot, the clouds really make it. And I also do not know this song, though I do love Orbison’s voice. Such a shame you couldn’t find a recording of him, but this is very nice.

I was disappointed too. No-one sang quite like Roy Orbison. I have a little Travelling Wilbury’s playlist on my phone for when I need a bit of cheering up.

Oh, yes. I like the Travelling Wilburys.

So beautiful and serene, both your photo and the song, a perfect match really! I really need to get up earlier to catch this blue hour too! 😂 xxxxxxx

No need to get up early — it was twilight 🙂 xxxxx

That silo is huge it is dwarfing all around it. Love how you have caught the bird too

Thanks Pauline. Have you seen the park around Wynyard Wharf? It has been totally gentrified and is a really nice space. The silos provide a sort of focal point, and they use that one to project films for outdoor cinema over summer. The interior space is also used for art exhibitions — it’s very cool.

No I haven’t been to Wynyard Wharf, I’ll have to put it on my visiting list next time we come to NZ

😀 Lots of good places to eat; and a fun Friday night market.

Lovely song and photo combination. The bird above the silo adds an extra touch of drama to the image.

Thank you. I used to edit blurry things like the bird out, but now I like how they add interest to shots. And given that I am near water almost all the time, I’d struggle to avoid seagulls in my shots.

Very scenic these days; it’s a tourist attraction now the whole industrial landscape is being gentrified 🤔
