After seeing so many signs of spring on our trip to the Waikato last weekend, a couple of bunches of tulips were a very welcome home-coming treat.
Regular Random is a photo challenge hosted by Desley Jane at Musings of a Frequently Flying Scientist. Please pop over and take a look; and if you’d like to join in:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!
- tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to Desley’s post.
So pretty and I like the way a few of the leaves curl in the first shot on the left. It’s funny to think of you having spring as we move towards the end of summer. 🙂

So funny seeing these as I am just about to order tulip bulbs for next year! Love the gorgeous pink colour.

Thanks Jude. My mother-in-law used to spend days poring over catalogues choosing her tulips and daffodil bulbs. It was a huge mission — combination of large garden and indecisiveness 😀

There are so many different varieties and colours, it is a difficult decision.

These would also be lovely to paint, I hope you have your sketchbook ready.😉
And oh no! When it’s ready time for tulips in your parts then winter isn’t far from here!!! 😨

They would be great to paint. But I think it will have to be from photos — not live. I don’t seem to be able to make time for anything creative at the moment. 😕 xxxxxxx

I do that all the time, painting from photos that is. 😉 Hope you’ll soon find time for more creativity, I know how awful it feels when one is kept from it. Xxxxxxxxx 💕

Thank you. I got a book from the library yesterday that’s basically photos of the pages of various artist’s journals. It’s so inspiring.

I bet it is! Somehow other people´s journals always seem to be much more interesting than one´s own, at least it´s that way for me. 😉 xxxxxx

🙂 They made me wonder when the artists had time to make anything else. Or perhaps it’s just that I’m really really slow 🙂 xxxxxx

Maybe they don´t need to sleep like normal folks do! 😀 xxxxxx

🙂 I do think that I sleep less when I’m feeling creative — which kind of makes sense. BTW: I just watched a video that suggests that when we’re stressed, instead of trying to relax we should try to learn something new, particularly things that engage with our strengths. I’m going to try it — maybe sketch instead of laying on the couch re-reading Harry Potter 🙂 xxxxxxx

That sounds so interesting! Could you send me a link to the video if it’s on YouTube?
And although sketching is one of the best things in the world and I can recommend it wholeheartedly when it comes to reducing stress, there’s nothing wrong with rereading Harry Potter for the umpteenth time.😉 xxxxxxxx

Lovely—and definitely a sign of spring for you. Meaning a sign that our summer is winding down. Damn….

☹️ although, the way weather patterns keep changing, you never know how long summer might linger.

True—but it does mean returning home from our summer cottage so my husband can go back to teaching.

☹️ that does feel like an ending.

I agree, it’s slipping away too fast!

So pretty! Sadly your spring means our fall. I am so not a winter person and it’s creeping in faster than I would like. I love tulips too!

I am a winter person, but our winters are relatively benign. I doubt I still feel the same way if we had real cold and snow 😀

Ours can be very cold and some years snowy and icy. It’s not a good season for me and it gets worse as I get older. ☹️

😦 Extremes are much harder as we get older. We get incredibly humid and increasingly hot summers, and each year I feel less and less able to function during the summer months.

My mum is like that. She’d happily live somewhere tropical if only she could get rid of the insects 🙂

That pink is particularly fabulous. Love the lightness in these shots. You’ve made me want to buy some flowers this weekend 😊

Stunning series, Su! I love how you’ve styled this shoot. That vase looks so wonderful against the flowers – the contrast of the colours, and the textures.

Thank you so much. The vase was a $3 charity shop purchase and I love it so much.
