I found some rose tea in the pantry, and although I love the way rosewater is used in Middle Eastern cooking, I’ve never really taken to roses in a tisane.
But the little buds look so pretty — and I am trying to cut down my coffee consumption — so I will make a few more cups, and try adding some extras like honey and lemon to change the flavour a bit.
Any rose tea drinkers amongst you with tips on brewing or flavouring?

Lovely Su. I have some rose tea too, someone gave it to me telling me how beautiful it is. And it smells amazing. It’s Rose and French Vanilla actually. But I just don’t like drinking it. Plus coffee exists. So I don’t need anything else. 😊

Hehe. Maybe I should just surrender myself to my coffee habit and be done with it.
I like the sound of Rose and French Vanilla too, but not as tea. I might work as an ice-cream flavour though? 🙂

Oh yes ice cream, what a great idea!
My friend at work the other day said that he’d been speaking with our newest sales person (who is in Brisbane!) and she said – I think I’m going to get a caffeine addiction like Desley! Word seems to have got around! Good grief – am I addicted? 😂

Try mixing it with some tea leaves. Maybe earl grey.

Colline – someone recently gave me earl gray with lavender and it is so good – never heard it with rose – mmm

That’s another interesting combination. Not my cup of tea (so to speak), but I can imagine it smells wonderful.

Haha – not my cup of tea…
And su- I realized you have featured some nice mugs/cups in your posts over the years.
So I guess mugs and cups are your cup of tea…

Yep; I do love my cup and mug collection. I love ceramics and often bought cups from artists because they’re usually cheaper than bigger works. Then our old “everyday” stuff started getting chipped and I realised life is too shot to drink from boring cups, so we use the nice stuff — and I keep finding more 😂

Oh right on to that! Use the nice stuff indeed.
And only in the last few years have I realized how much I like bone china – for some beverages. And not sure if you like Starbucks or not – but I do not like their coffee (or teas) but they sell some nice cups.

I’m not a Starbucks fan, but I didn’t know they sold cups. Makes sense!!

they have retail items in all their stores – over priced – but does go on sale – and then clearance at times.
Back in 99 – yes – that long ago – I bought a garden spade with a mug – I have never seen one for sale in one since then (and I did not step in a store for 8 years or more and went with my mom a lot on her visits only recently – but stopped that because…)
anyhow, I still have the garden spade and it is super well made

I guess merchandising is all adding to the brand value!! And I confess I bought the Big T a branded cup from our favourite deli (which at least isn’t a chain) because he loves the feel of them when we are in there, and it is really sturdy and keeps his coffee warm.
Love that your spade is still going strong 🙂

Erm… no. I love the smell of herbal teas, but i find that not many are palatable. My favourite is anything with liquorice in it! Although when I feel ill I have been known to drink chamomile with honey or lemon. But I do like the mug with the rosebuds, very pretty.

Ooh. That sounds interesting. When I’ve had tea in Middle Eastern restaurants, it’s either been a mint tisane, which I love, or very strong sweetened black tea, which I really disliked. But I don’t like any sweet drinks, so that doesn’t help.

It is sweet but has a strong licorice taste.

I think that’s it Jude. The smell is enticing in so many cases, but the tastes just don’t live up to the promise. 🙂

When I worked at the tea shop, we sold lots of good-tasting herbal teas (or tisanes, really, as they contain no tea.) I drink a variety of teas: white, green, oolong, black, herbal, rooibos. My favorite scent in tea is jasmine, but there are other good ones. I tried a tea not long ago that had a rose flavor, but didn’t really care for it. Lovely photos, though.

Lovely photos, Su, and an especially adorable mug! I also worked in a tea chop and enjoyed tisanes, but not traditional herbal teas. The tisanes the shop carried were W. German as I recall, were combinations of dried fruits, leaves & berries, and were edible (after steeping!) as well as drinkable.

Very pretty, but I don’t think it would appeal as tea…

Love the composition – never mind the taste. And that exquisite little mug! The best herbal tea I had lately was in a cafe where they had just put springs of fresh-picked ordinary mint into a tea pot. I couldn’t believe how good it was, or why I’d never thought to do it.

Fresh is definitely the best. I’ve made peppermint tea that way, but had a moment similar to yours when I was at a friend’s and she made me ginger tea by slicing fresh ginger into the pot. Forehead slap! It was soooo good.

I haven’t had rose tea on its own but some floral teas, like hibiscus, need some lemon and a little sugar to enhance their flavours..

I’ve been resisting sweetening it because sugar plays havoc with my eczema, but perhaps a little honey or coconut sugar might work. And lemon is a good addition to so many things. 🙂

Yes coconut sugar could work well.

I notice that you have the rose buds there. Do you use them or the rose hips for the tea?

The tea is made from the rose buds. It’s fun opening the packet and just seeing lots and lots of tiny red rosebuds. They smell lovely 🙂

I wonder what it tastes like. Is the rose fragrance strong? I love bergamot tea. It is strong but agreeable.
LikeLiked by 1 person
The rose fragrance is quite strong, but I thought it didn’t have much taste. Bergamot is one of the few tastes I truly can’t stand, so Earl Gray tea is totally out for me. 😀

Oh I cannot believe! I so love it 🙂 I dislike the bagged peppermint tea. Would only drink it as a remedy, so save me life 🙂 A few fresh peppermint leaves straight from the garden taste much better. Now I have to find the rose tea and try it too.

I’m with you on peppermint teabags. I don’t have mint in the garden any more, but do buy it reasonably often and infuse it to drink. I get the rosebud tea at a local Asian grocer; it’s a Chinese brand. 🙂

Asian grocer! I wouldn’t think of it. Thank you for the tip!

We have three or four stores that I know about. I will get the rosebuds, or at least order them 🙂

Never tried it but why not? But I once gave rose water a try and made some lemonade with it and oranges. I only used a tsp of rose water and wow! It’s really strong and you want to be careful with it otherwise it can ruin every dish. 😄

😀 I found that with rose water too — and orange blossom water was even more overpowering.the rose tea is kind of the opposite, but maybe I didn’t brew it long enough. I like the idea of rosewater lemonade though 😀 xx
