It’s so scary. All the fertile topsoil that’s being washed out to sea took hundreds (thousands) of years to form. We simply can’t replace it on demand.

Very disturbing. Our current home, part of an over 55 development built about ten years ago, was once farm land. 😦

I guess that’s true of most developments, when you think how much farming was once a “local” activity. When I was a child, we used to take trips “to the country” to buy fruit straight from the orchards. My son went to school on one of those ex-orchards. 🙁

Sadly the same problem is happening in the UK. ‘Green belts’ are being consumed by new housing estates and centuries of farmland are destroyed for ever. We have empty ‘brown sites’ (disused factories and inner city areas) that could be creatively used for new homes but that would cost more money! 😔
