(Still) feeling too lethargic and woolly-headed from my cold to get out and do much, I am amusing myself with simple projects — like up-cycling kimono sashes (obi).
The latest cushion was made entirely from the silk in the sash itself and required very little sewing.
I love these fabrics; the beautiful colours and designs, and the wonderful lustre of the silk fibres.

I found a shop in Penrose that imports second-hand Japanese stuff, including a lot of textiles. They have racks and racks of obi (and kimono). The obi start at $10 each, with the most amazing ones a lot more than that. Since I’m cutting them up for cushion covers and bags, I stick to the $10 rack 😀 They don’t have a website, but this link is helpful http://costumeandtextile.co.nz/a-treat-for-japanese-textile-lovers/

Thank you so much. I did look at the economics of selling some of my stuff a while ago. Living in New Zealand, a lot of materials are quite expensive and then trying to ship them to anywhere else is ridiculously expensive. It’s not a great business model sadly 😦

Try setting up an online store. I know that (for example) weebly.com has an online store offering. I found it very easy to use for my website , you just drag and drop elements to build your website, and the result is quite slick. Online buyers are used to paying for shipping, so no problem there! https://www.weebly.com/au/online-store

Sorry you’re still feeling under the weather, Su. But these lovely cushions are very pleasing. Can’t beat a bit of creative re-purposing for bringing satisfaction, nor silk for its lustre.

Thanks Tish. I just have to get rid of the cough, and I’m sure I’ll be fine. Thyme and ginger tea seems to work pretty well.

We went to the doctor yesterday to try and find out why we are both so woolly headed too. I was pretty simple to diagnose: I’m pretty seriously anemic. What is worrying me is WHY I’m so anemic. I eat all the right food. Maybe not enough Vitamin C. Garry, on the other hand, needs a heart checkup. Funny how we have the same symptoms for entirely different reasons.

I had planned to do much more, and more detailed stuff, but cushions were easy and don’t involve complex shapes or tailoring. The summer dress I stared is languishing because I can’t quite get the fit right. 🙁
