I ❤ these pohutukawa trees. I managed to see some in Auckland and Raglan on my visit, but not in their full glory. LikeLiked by 1 person Reply
Next time!!! The coastal road from east Auckland to Thames is (aptly) called the Pohutukawa Coast, and is a lovely drive with lots of good spots for photographers. LikeLiked by 1 person Reply

I love these flowers, especially now that we don’t have any in the northern hemisphere. Lovely photos, Su! LikeLiked by 1 person Reply
Wow, I’ve never seen those before! Do they bloom only at Christmas time like a Christmas cactus? Beautiful! LikeLiked by 1 person Reply
There are a few different cultivars, but generally they flower between November and January-February, depending on the local climate. LikeLiked by 1 person Reply
Thanks Leslie. Pohutukawa trees grow very large, so roadsides sometimes feel like a ribbon of crimson. LikeLiked by 2 people Reply
Happy Christmas, Su. My own Christmas tree is a pohutukawa, in a pot, about knee high 🙂 LikeLiked by 2 people Reply
That’s a shame. But at least with ribbons you don’t have to vacuum dropped stamen off the floor. LikeLiked by 1 person Reply

There are so many around at the moment, it feels like nature’s painted the town red 🙂 LikeLiked by 1 person Reply

Actually it never blooms so it gets some red ribbons in its hair.
