“Christmas to a child is the first terrible proof that to travel hopefully is better than to arrive.” — Stephen Fry
Perhaps I’ll be infected by some Christmas spirit in the next few days, but right now I’m feeling grateful that it looks like the day will pass quietly without the usual rushing from one place I don’t want to be, to the next.
I expect that once I begin wrapping presents, my desire to create little works of packaging art will kick in and I’ll end up in a frenzy of ribbons and embellishments. Meantime I can content myself rearranging the token bowl of tree ornaments brightening up the coffee table.
Regular Random is a photo challenge hosted by Desley Jane at Musings of a Frequently Flying Scientist. Please pop over and take a look; and if you’d like to join in:
- choose a subject or a scene
- spend five minutes photographing it – no more!
- try to not interfere with the subject, instead see it from many angles, look through something at it, change the light that’s hitting it
- have fun!
- tag your post #regularrandom and ping back to Desley’s post.

Friend; you have a VERY good eye and a fantastic macro lens AND a sense for artistry…. Congratulations! I’m doing the same as I’ve given away one tall (fake) Christmas tree to a needy home and my then newly bought one to our church for this Season and therefore only have a teeny tiny one sitting prettily on a metal stand BUT also I have vases and bowls filled with those precious glass baubles, hearts and deco elements. IT IS CHRISTMAS whether we like it or not, so we might just as well enjoy every minute of it – it will be January soon enough and in our region it’s a miserable time…. Have a great one – and have all the fun it’s meant to be 😉

Thank you so much. It’s summer here, so we have enough to celebrate in the sunshine and summer holidays. Christmas feels like an added complication, and with all the traditions emanating from the (cold) north, it is kind of a weird time here.

PS: I love the Schulz quotes; ALL of them – at any time – all the time…. and I adore Stephen Fry’s intelligence, wit, and often sarcasm….. This one is witty, clever, and a bit too dark for us grown-ups who KNOW this and hope that our children never need to find out before their time!

I’m with you on Schulz— and Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes). Good cartoonists make the best philosophers. 😀

😀 I’m thinking of pushing the boat out and filling a vase as well. 😂

I know how you feel Su. It does become almost too much. There’s a big dinner yet to be prepared etc.

Thanks Leslie. Ours will be a very small, simple Christmas, so not much to prepare.

That makes it so much more easier. We’ll probably have 12 for Christmas dinner.

😀 I’ve done those big meals. Exhausting, but fun.

I really dreaded Christmas dinner then. Our kitchen isn’t terribly big.

I once prepared and cooked Xmas dinner for 12 at my in-laws house only to find that their stove wasn’t working properly and no-one had bothered to tell me. I felt like MacGyver, getting that meal on the table. 😂😂

Awesome quote by Stephen Fry, he’s so right! Love him, incredibly funny and intelligent man!
Your decorations look so lovely and I’m sure you’ll get into Christmas mood soon. 😉

I agree about Stephen Fry — his odd views about women’s sexuality notwithstanding.
My enjoyment of Christmas will be largely dependent on the boy-child’s happiness, but at least I have managed to organise the day such that I won’t have to spend most of it in the car visiting far-flung relatives.

I really feel with you about that relatives visiting horror – we used to do it when I was a kid and I sooo hated it! My cousins were all much younger than me, the food was ugh! and all the adults were smoking.
