I noticed lots of hydrangeas flowering around Hamilton when we visited yesterday. Mainly blue, but I did spot these lovely creamy whites.

Wonderful, beautiful, delicate beauty. Blue means a lot of iron in the soil – white ones donβt make an appearance here at all….. But at this time of the year we are left with the brown, dried flowers of this summer and autumn and every day I scream silenty in my head: Should I have cut them back this season (November) or must I now wait until spring 2019?! They look so awful once the colours are all gone – and yet, they were flowering until mid November….. These are fabulous!

Thanks so much. I really like the way they look in decay β but after a while it does look a bit too brown π

I love hydrangeas, Su. I’ve still got two in my garden despite them not being all that suitable for this climate. They get very droopy on hot days but soon spring back. My dogs love to dig hoes under them and camp there out of the sun. So beautiful.

π Youβve reminded me that when I was about 5 or 6 my friend and I build a hut amongst the hydrangeas to stay cool in summer (and hide from our mums) π

Now that sounds like fun. It is a good thing the hydrangeas are forgiving plants. π

So lovely, especially in white which I rarely get to see around here. They’re mostly blue or pink. π

Same here, though the white ones seem to have become a bit more common in the last few years.
