😂😂 I used to hate the smell when mum lived here and I visited often, but now I quite like it. Totally enjoying the geyser views from the hotel window

I shot this with a zoom lens, but the geyser is about 500m away. The whole are is very active. We have steam coming from the earth all around us 😀

😀 The smell’s intermittent. I really noticed it briefly yesterday afternoon, but much not since then. The abundance of hot water to heat the swimming pool and spa is a major compensation!!

Temperatures vary a lot between pools all round the city. There are places you can swim/bathe, but many others which are boiling hot.

It is. Geothermal accounts for about 13% of our electricity generation apparently.

😀 we have such enormous geothermal fields, and have been generating power this way since the 1950s apparently.

What a view! I’ve heard of Rotorua, but not seen photos of it, at least that I can remember. Thanks for reminding me of it.

My God! I was worried it was some smoke! So glad it’s only a friendly geyser in the neighbourhood! 😂

Not sure how friendly. It goes off about 20 times a day, and gets to heights of about 30m 😂😂
