The strawberries and pomegranates are both finished for the season. Just sweet, tart memories of how red is the colour of surprise.

Lovely reds. Best part is the blue plate, though, for me. π

I love the plate too. I bought it, and a few bowls in (wait for it) a Briscoe sale!!

I bought a big plate in the same pattern from Briscoes, too. In a sale, of course. π

Given the frequency of their sales, it would be extremely bad luck β or poor planning β to pay full price for anything there.

Yet, yet, I am ashamed to confess that I have done so, once, or maybe twice! π I have moments when I excel at poor planning.

Iβm like that with the discounted petrol weekends. The emails always arrive just after Iβve filled the car up π

You and I are on the same page today, Su, a berry sweet (or tart) page.

Ours seemed to have a very short season this year.

And in our shops we already see the first very pale and surely tasteless straws….. pomegranates not – but I always buy a few and let them dry. Those who survive and donβt just foul away, are being kept as decorative natural art objects – they look stunning and awake my need for summery thoughts and warm feelings! Iβm easy to pleasy…. π

I hadnβt thought of dried pomegranate as an art object. I photograph them when they are fresh β they are incredibly sensuous.

Itβs pure laziness on my side – I LOVE everything about pomegranates but they are hell to shell and the few times I tried it, I had to repaint my kitchen afterwards….. AND they are too costly to eat them, really π

Hehe. They are really cheap here in season, and basically just not available the rest of the year. I really enjoy the whole process of taking the arils out. Havenβt had to re-decorate. β yet ππ

I love that, red the color of surprise – I’m a bit of a red fan and surprise myself all the time. π

Can’t be too long now. Are they spring or summer fruit for you? We get the best ones in spring.

Spring, though we do get them during early summer as well, sometimes even in winter but then theyΒ΄re imported from Chile which of course is a no go.

I love the seasonality of foods, and importing them from all over the place spoils that β on top of the environmental issues and the fact that stuff never tastes as good when itβs from the other side of the world.
