Prunella vulgaris, or self-heal. The clue’s in the name really. Thought to impede blood flow to wounds, it has long been used as a medicinal herb. In New Zealand, it’s commonly found in large clumps in the lawn and regarded as a weed.
Thanks Pauline. This short month has thrown me, but I’m aiming to have mine done tomorrow and will link yours. Have a wonderful time with the Kiwi whanau.
True. Here the problem is that our flora evolved in a very isolated, but very fertile, environment, and many introduced plants thrive here much more than they did at home. So even really beautiful plants like agapanthus are dangerous to our native species simply by being so successful.☹️
It would be a pretty weed. We usually have dandelions.

We had dandelions until the Big T waged war on them.

Do you know that you can eat them and at one of the garden stores they actually sell them?

I have had dandelion tea in the past. And I wouldn’t mind growing them for that. But in the lawn they look horrible and they strangle out the grass.

They also make dandelion wine from them…

😀 I always think of dandelion wine as a very quaint English thing, but it’s probably really nice.

Funny, I think of it as rather quaint too. I’ve never tried it….

Believe it or not most weeds are quite lovely to me! This one too! Great capture!

Thanks Robert. I have a great fondness for quite a few weed species too.

Leave it to us humans to take an herb that heals and call it a weed. Sheesh.

It’s funny which plants people count as weed and which not. I actually find many of them quite lovely to look at and this one too! 😄

We have quite a lot of these invasive plants here too, mostly from Asia. 😦

😦 Ours come mainly from European settlers bringing “a little bit of home” with them when they migrated.
