My son is a talented musician who finds little time to play anymore — which is a shame as I’ve always enjoyed listening to him (even in the early days when his repertoire consisted of riffs from Crazy Frog and Smoke on the Water).

Yesterday he told me he’s going to a concert and sent me a link to the act performing. Given the recent divergence in our musical tastes, I wasn’t expecting to like it, but (and I won’t name names) it was better than I expected, if a bit repetitive.

Pleasant-sounding — but only in small doses.

    • Yep. Just THAT riff!
      He badgered the band at my brother’s wedding to let him perform with them, and bless them, these lovely professional musicians let a seven year old boy bang out “doo-doo-doo .. doo-doo-doo-doo …”for several minutes on a very expensive Gibson, while they sang and played along.
      I do wish he had the same confidence these days.

      • Don’t mention expensive Gibsons. The OH has just bought one (a gift to himself from his inheritance) and now fancies another for his 70th birthday! I wouldn’t mind but we don’t have the space for more guitars! Still, it means I have a BIG budget for the garden 🙂

        • Hehe. Be grateful it’s guitars and not motorbikes like the Big T. Come to think of it though … we have three acoustic guitars, two electric (including the boy’s Gibson) and a bass. Plus amps. We’ll never be able to downsize 🙂
          Maybe I should suggest a garden for grunt machine trade-off?

  7. A beautiful shot, Su! He looks completely absorbed – did he know you were taking his picture?
    Always wanted to play the guitar, even still have one but somehow always gave up each time I tried to teach myself. Maybe one day… 😊

    • Thank you Sarah. I think he did know. From memory we were taking the photo to send to his grandmother or uncle?
      I had guitar lessons as a kid, but was never very good. I had a few more when the boy-child was little, and am still not very good. I basically don’t practice enough and it is one of those things that does need lots of practice.
      I tell myself I’ll do that when I have more time, but it never seems to happen. 🙂

      • That’s exactly it – practice. I’m so not good at that if I don’t really push myself! 😂 Which admittedly isn’t as often as it should be… 😉 Ah, well, there are worse things than not being able to play the guitar, I guess. 😀

        • You have so many other talents, and produce so much beautiful art, I think the world can forgive you if you don’t also supply the soundtrack for your work.
          Speaking of which …. T and I went to an exhibition of paintings by Serj Tankian (System of a Down), and they all had a Q-code which linked to music he’d composed for each work.

          • Aww – thank you, Su! 🙏
            I guess I inherited that need to do or at least try to do everything myself from my maternal grandfather. He was what you could call a real Renaissance man – extremely intelligent, passionate linguist, musical (play the guitar and sing), cook like a chef, paint… the list is much longer if you can believe it but I will leave it at that. 😀
            Thanks for the link, I’ve just had a look at the website and am fascinated by the concept. With him being the front man of his band I’m not surprised he came up with the idea to accompany his works of art with music. 🙂
