I don’t like eating figs, but I love looking at them. They are intensely decorative.

Is that because of the texture, or the taste? My son scoops out the flesh, but won’t eat the skin and that fascinates me.

Yum! Our younger daughter made some delicious fig jam many years ago when she was spending time with my s-i-l and b-i-l in Provence. It topped some foie gras just beautifully. 🙂

Oh, it was, especially paired with champagne while sitting around their pool. 😁. Now they live in a different part of France, but it’s still fun to visit.

😀 I have now tried fig on pizza with gorgonzola, and grilled fig and rocket salad with blue cheese (definitely a cheese theme here), but I still prefer figs fresh from the tree.

Oh wow! That sounds good! (Although I’ve never tried gorgonzola.) The best figs I ever had were picked from a tree on a beach in Spain – just heaven! 😀

I do love fresh figs! The first time I had them was from a roadside vendor in Jordan — a revelation! I’ve never found them as sweet or tasty again. Enjoy yours while they’re available. 🙂

I think that our enjoyment of food is so tied up with the time and place we experience it. It sounds like your first figs were eaten at a very special time and place, and all others are going to pale a bit in comparison.
I have a similar experience with sea bass — the best I ever had was on a beach-front restaurant in Corsica. Nothing else will ever come close.

I love figs with or without anything. They are a wonderful snack, the chutney versions are delicious and in France I have them with cheese and on top of anything, literally, grilled, raw, slightly cooked.
The ‚tableau‘ you show off here is wonderful, very painterly. 😉
