Te Kuiti in the King Country proclaims itself the “shearing capital of the world.” I’m not sure how such a title is bestowed, but the town definitely takes its links to sheep shearing seriously — with this seven metre high statue of a shearer at work.
Sheep shearing is not really my thing; but carrot cake is. Eaten at Stoked cafe in the old Te Kuiti railway station.
I’m all about the cake )

That would be Ohakune β down country a bit further. ππ
Itβs the town with a seven metre high fibreglass carrot as itβs βattraction.β New Zealanders and their odd town sculptures β some friends of mine wrote a book about it a few years ago.

Hehe. It always amazes me what towns will create to promote themselves.

I am in agreement with the others – lovely looking carrot cake.

It was good; moist and spicy. And the perfect size for T and I to share without feeling too full.

ha ha; I was eager to see what place was the SHARiNG capital of the world….. – now I’m a bit put off π
I blame it on my failing eye sights – but I DO see that this looks like one rich carrot cake PLUS…. (I think I’d only have the ice cream with berries)

Hehe. Good place for sharing cake!! It was very rich and T and I were happy to share the slice. The yogurt and raspberry coulis were nicely tart to balance the cake.

Definitely!! The barista there is really good; the food is great and the staff are always so friendly. Long opening hours too which is good when youβre travelling.

That looks like a good one too (carrot cake). Thanks for sharing Su. This is a calorie free way to enjoy it.

I don’t know if it’s the carrot cake or the cream cheese icing. I’m going with the icing. I swear I could put it on just about anything and my husband would eat it π

Hehe. I know that feeling. I had to stop making the cake because there was always (mysteriously) so much “spare” icing — which somehow then disappeared from the fridge.

I’ve seen some sheep shearing done on television – mighty impressive when done with expertise.
But when there’s cake, there’s cake – who cares about sheep then? π xxx

It is impressive to watch — though I prefer wood-chopping. And cake of course!!!
On a school trip years ago the boy-child was picked out to help a shearer in a demonstration. Honestly, he couldn’t have picked a more reluctant, disinterested child — especially when others were clamoring for a chance to take part. The boy still claims that was the worst school trip ever.

LOL! π Maybe the shearer should have offered cake instead. π
