One of the things I love about my favourite neighbourhood walking route is how many of the houses I pass that have camellia hedges. At this time of year, it makes for a very slow walk.
Now this is spooky. Seeing camellias in your part of the world when I have only just finished posting about them myself! I guess these must be the autumn-winter flowering varieties (Camellia sasanqua) which are often scented so have a sniff as you pass by. I love the white one with the barely there pink blush. And that first macro shot is fabulous. Do you not get any wind in your neighbourhood? I rarely get to use my macro lens here…
… agh hit send too soon. Itโs not generally that windy here, particularly at this time of year, though I know what you mean. I hardly used the macro lens at all last winter.
You should! I did plant some a while ago when I first got to Melbourne. They were quite well established when I got them but I put them in large pots (I only have a balcony) and they did not survive sadly.
How beautiful

I guess the neighbours are used to me getting close to their hedges to photograph them โ sniffing is the next step really ๐

Our camellias bloom around Jan-March, so we are done. It is so good to see them again–and different than what we have!

I didnโt realise (until Jude mentioned something about it) that there were so many different kinds of camellias.

Iโm enjoying it as much as I can before any more high-density housing arrives.

โน๏ธ Iโd love a camellia hedge, but we have 55 metre boundary, and I suspect T might baulk at THAT many camellia plants.
