Who doesn’t like a good love song? Especially when it belongs to a film as touching and beautifully made as John Carney’s Once.
All of the film’s original music was written and performed by the lead actors Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova.
This song, Falling Slowly, won the pair an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2007.

Oh Su, this is one of my favouritest songs ever! And I adore the movie. We sing this song in my singing group. In fact, we sing a number of Glen Hansard’s songs. He’s a beautiful songwriter.
One of my favourite memories of this song is having it playing in the car and my Youngest Son sang the melody while I sang the harmony, all the way home from school. ❤

What a wonderful memory. The boy-child have one song we sing together — Dream a Little Dream — which was “his” lullaby from babyhood.

I liked that film too! And you’ve given me another of those “was that really x years ago moments”. I saw something on FB or somewhere about that today – measuring your life in musical milestones. Apparently, for example, the baby on the Nirvana record sleeve is now 28.

I like the notion of musical milestones. I suspect mine would be more sparse than the Big T’s, but it would make for a fun night of music. We had a Desert Islands Disks dinner party a few years ago, which was really good fun.

Well, I’m glad I watched it even though it was a bit too much of a good thing for me. No sound engineer would throw frisbee on the beach at the break of dawn after the all-night shoot. 😀 It has the feel of a looong videospot. Nothing wrong with that. It was fascinating to learn that Mr. Hansard (who I remember from my beloved Commitments) had to step in after Mr. Cillian Murphy dropped out. His and her musical performances are amazing. Their acting not so much. 🙂

That’s correct! When they are not acting, they are the best. Once they start to act – for example the first time she is at his place and he asks her to spend the night, since it’s in the script, and her reaction to it – it gets a bit cringe-worthy. 🙂
