The last day of my friend Sarah‘s 30 Days, 30 Songs project.
I had no idea it would be so difficult to choose just 30 songs to share. There are so many gaps, I’m seriously thinking of ways to incorporate more music into my blog — either as a regular “thing” I do, or as some sort of challenge/prompt. More to come on this …
But as Seneca (and Semisonic (1)) said “every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”, so first things first.
For the last post I guess I could have chosen The Last Post. No, not really.
My list of potential finale numbers was almost as long as the month itself, but in the end, I’ve chosen Lie in the Land, written and performed by Eva Prowse as part of the band Fly My Pretties.
I began the month with a New Zealand artist, and an image taken on Greenhithe Wharf. I’m ending it the same way.
I can’t find the lyrics of this song online anywhere, but it does include the lines:
Rolling on, rolling on
How do you find where you belong
Rolling on, rolling home,
Lie in the land that you come from
Sarah at Art Expedition has hosted 30 Days 30 Songs during June. You can hear all of her musical choices by visiting her blog. Her final song is one of my favourites too.
- The Semisonic song Closing Time, written by Dan Wilson, includes Seneca’s line.
Love it, Su. My type of music. Great to see more talented NZ folk.

Lovely song Su. I take it you weren’t born in NZ. Where is your place of birth?

I was born in Scotland, but have lived here most of my life.

I didn’t know that at all, but I liked it.

I don’t think Fly My Pretties tour much (if at all) outside NZ. If they ever do make it to Glasgow, I’d recommend going to see them. 🙂

You have great taste in music! Thanks for introducing me to a few artists I didn’t know . . .

Thanks so much. It has been a really fun exercise. The best part I think has been reading the other blogs and finding new music myself. 🙂

whew – that singer has some voice! and her violin skills are good – also – the song is great – a good choice for the ending and connecting to your month’s start –

I haven’t had time to listen to all your posts, but thank you for introducing me to new artists and reminding me of old favourites. It has been a blast. I like the lyrics here. I am a rolling stone and no longer know where I am from. I have moved so often my roots are shallow.

🙂 I spent so much of my life on the move, and never intended to stay as long as I have in the current house. It’s not (I hope) my forever home, but I think NZ might be.

I think NZ is a very lovely place. I wish I’d gone there when I was younger.

It does feel like a good place to be at the moment; though that feeling is as fragile here as anywhere 😦

Wow, what a great band! I had never heard of them so thank you so much for posting this. x

I’m glad you like them. They’re a sort of “super-group” of NZ musicians from other bands, and I love practically every song they do.

I’ve really enjoyed your songs, Sue especially the ones I’ve not heard before. Thank you so much. Love this one.

I’m so glad. It is really nice to share music and have people enjoy it.
If you get a chance to see Fly My Pretties — it’s well worthwhile.

Love this band too. I could listen to Eva Prowse’s voice all day. So beautiful. Thanks for introducing to this band. Now I want to discover more of their music.

I’m glad you like their music. Fly My Pretties is, I guess, the closest NZ has to a super-group, with all the members having successful solo careers, or with other bands. You might like Anna Coddington’s music (another FMP member)

Absolutely love this song! I could have it played all day long I think, her voice and the music is that good. 😄 But I did get a bit distracted by the lovely golden dresses. 😄
Thanks so much again for joining the challenge and contributing to it in the most wonderful way, i.e. introducing me to new artists and music!
