It is a bit! But easier to pronounce in English (it’s pretty phonetic) than many Maori words. Im glad to say that, as a nation, we seem to be at least trying harder these days.

I love it too. And the trees (which grow huge) are everywhere, so whole areas take on a sort of red glow when the flowers are out.

I find the NZ Christmas tree fascinating. I have never heard of the flower by the difficult name of Pohutukawa. I had to copy and paste the word, as I find it too hard to remember its name. Have a great weekend, Su!

Pohutukawa is the name given by our First Nation people. The plant is a member of the myrtle family.

Beautiful capture Su. The Pohutukawa trees flowering is something I look forward to viewing around my neighbourhood. This year they flowered first in Tauranga city than anywhere else. With the jacarandas its so cheerful along the streets.
