It rained so hard during my over-night stop in Turangi that the hydrangea bucket was in danger of overflowing (never mind the river less than 100 metres from my room).
Despite (or maybe because) of the drenching, the plants looked much healthier in the morning and survived the journey home.
I’ve potted the smaller one. It looks a bit wonky with one large flower-head hanging off the side, but there is another, quite robust-looking stem growing straight.
Hydrangea One — the mother-plant — is still bucketed and seems to be doing fine. Now I just have to find a suitable space in the garden for her.

Well done, you. It’s a fabulous colour, so well worth the effort. Not a shade I’ve ever encountered in the UK either. exciting stuff seeing it in its new home.

I’m sure you know what kind of soil hydrangeas need. They sure need a lot of water! The colours are awesome and the little baby one is SO cute and strong. To hold on to that heavy flower on such a tender stem is a great sign of strength and determination. Watch out for them, will you please?!

And they’ll thank you with their most beautiful flowering ‘balls’ – in their very unique and special colour! I used to dislike them and for years they were cemetery flowers to me (I don’t know why, I’ve never seen any in a cemetery)….. now I love them.

I’m glad they made it home, but I would cut off that flower on the small cutting so all its energy goes into forming new roots. Lovely colour. I’d like to get a deep red and a purple one next year.

I love the colours too. I’ve seen more like that this year than in the past (or I’m noticing them more 🤔)
