Red is a benevolent dictatorship.
— James Jannard, founder Oakley Inc.
Patti’s challenge was to ‘find something red.’ My personal challenge is not to go overboard with this. I love red; red clothes, red lipstick, red food, red cars and (I’m not sure I realised this, red art).
Long ago (and far away). Red as armor in the days of office politics and shoulder pads. Image: The Big T, 1991.

And I know I’ve posted the Anish Kapoor sculpture before, but surely this fits Patti’s brief very well. Red art on a monumental scale: it is 85 metres long, and each end is 25m x 8m.
Red, of course, is the colour of the interior of our bodies. In a way it’s inside out, red.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge | find something red
I’d never seen an Anish Kapoor red work before. Obviously time for a trip to NZ!

It is stunning!!!
It’s also held in a private collection that is only open to the public via a kind of lottery system and through fund-raisers. I’ve been lucky to visit twice, but have tried unsuccessfully to organise visits for friends on several other occasions.

I love the photo of you! Who didn’t have a red power suit in the 80s? 😀

Me! I had reddish hair so figured I couldn’t wear bright red. My power suits were dark colours.
(I did wear red later though and loved it!)

I get that. Red heads have to wear red very carefully!! It’s like me with green. With olive skin, greens are rather tricky to pull off without looking ill.

The one time I dyed my hair red it co-coincided with trying to find a dress for my brother’s wedding. Nightmare!!! Everything I loved looked terrible with the hair, so I sympathize.

Hehe. I had a kick-ass red dress too. I remember wearing it the first time I asked for a raise.

Oooo – I had a kickass red dress too. I always felt very sophisticated in it 🙂
Now, I rarely wear red. It’s just not a colour I enjoy wearing.

I still love my red lipstick!

I hardly wear lipstick these days, but I suspect that softer shades might make me look less like a clown.

I’m still working….for 11 more days!! Retirement, I am so ready for you. Give me a couple weeks and I will have no idea what make-up is. 😀

I love the crimson end of the spectrum. Warm reds don’t suit me particularly well.

WOW Su, dazzling selection this week. You really DO love red! Laughed at your description of the age of shoulder pads :-). And your double vision of the tiny car was really beautifully captured, but these are all so creative and wonderful. Great job on this one.

Adding red poppies to your listing, as I love the colour as well!

Forehead slap! I have some shots of ANZAC poppies I completely forgot about.

It’s a colour I love too, but I don’t any in our home, which is largely blue and white, and not much in photographs. Wonderfully subtle bottle-brush plant, and the little car is fab. 🙂 🙂

Thanks Jo. You’ve made me realise that while i wear red, I don’t have much around the house — apart from my food processor 🙂

Anish Kapoor’s work is great, isn’t it? I love his work in Chicago, but I’d never seen others until now. Thanks! Great shots and a wonderfully diverse collection, Su.

I see today’s post on the red colour as a strong reminder that Valentine’s Day is approaching, Su.

Valentines Day isn’t really a ‘thing’ in our house. Over the years, T has been away on business so often that it’s become a joke between us. 😀

Wow! What a stunning collection of reds you have and weren’t you the snazzy lady! (Still are of course…) I have never worn red lipstick (in fact I rarely wear make-up at all) my go-to colours were berry or copper shades.

Thank you 😀 I’d forgotten that I could scrub up quite well. These days I’m a jeans and t-shirts person, so make-up is rarity for me too.
I particularly liked that red lipstick. It was the only one I found that really suited me.

Thanks Darren. I liked it too. At the time I noticed some social media users were strategically pixelating their shot of it. Sigh.
