They are marvelous! Their bodies are too plump to be gulls, and their beaks aren’t shaped as gulls’ are. What are they? And how did you ever get them to line up like that – bribe them with the snack of their choice? Which was…… sardines????
Afraid I canโt claim any credit. They stood there, just like that, for ages. Then someone came out of the fish and chip shop with scraps and it was a free-for-all.
Looks like a lovely day there Su. We are having a snow storm. Apparently the groundhog didn’t see it’s shadow so we’re suppose to have an early spring. Let’s hope he’s right.

They look as though they were waiting for you! And you do know there is no such bird as a seagull? Being red-billed gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae scopulinus) – I know, you just couldn’t make that up, or actually maybe someone did – they have to be waiting for mackerel. ๐๐
I did know that. Was it you who wrote it in a post or comment recently?
Having confessed that, I guess Iโm also confessing to being lazy. I only looked up what type of gull afterwards.
Probably not mackerel in this case. I think they had their sights set on scraps from the chippy on the wharf. Raglan Wharf ๐
I did a post about the Mediterranean gulls which mentioned that there are no such birds as seagulls ๐คฃ Raglan wharf as in Raglan? I have had fish and chips from there and they were jolly nice!
I definitely will next time. Raglan Roast does good coffee, and is expanding. I had it first at their cafe in Wellington and the guy I spoke to in Raglan at the weekend said they have opened a few in Auckland too.
Still love them! ๐ And having watched Hitchcock last Monday (‘Rear Window’) I can’t help shuddering a bit and hearing The Birds theme (or is that Psycho – yes, that’s it ๐). ๐

I believe they are red-billed gulls; very common here.
I didnโt have to do anything. They stood like that for a surprisingly long time. ๐

I was also going to ask how you got them to pose so beautifully! Or how long you had to wait?

Great work. Itโs like you asked them to pose!

Thanks. I think they were just being prepared for whatever the fishermen nearby were discarding.

Doves? Whatever kind of bird they are, they’re very regimented.

๐ though as Jude pointed out, โseagullโ is a generic term for the many species of gull.

Great shot, Su! I wonder how the second gull can keep her balance standing on one leg.

Thanks Peter. It was like that for ages. At first I wondered if the other leg was injured, but it seemed ok.

Actually, until the fish scraps appeared (after Iโd taken a few shots), they were both still and silent.

Yes, THE Raglan. When I saw (and smelled) the fish and chips I regretted the perfectly nice meal Iโd just had. Iโll have to go back.

Hehe. I stopped enjoying Hitchcock films after Psycho. Love Rear Window; I watched it again recently and it hasnโt lost any of its brilliance.
