Look at you! This is wonderful. What mm is your macro, Su? I need to practice more with mine. My photos never turn out as sharp as yours. Did you know you were my teacher? 😀
I have a Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro lens, but I actually shot this with my camera’s kit lens. It’s a composite image; the background is made by playing with a filter in photoshop, then overlaying it with a cut out bit of the original (if that makes any sense).
I am honoured you think I have anything to teach, and will do so happily.
I have a 40mm f/2.8. And no photoshop. I think the lens is the problem (notice how I bypassed any blame on me 😀 ). My photos, except for a bit of straightening up, are pretty much out of the camera. I am going to have to practice more. Your macros are truly exceptional, Su.
Thank you Lois. There are lots of good photo-editing apps around for tablets, etc. I really like Snapseed and was using it almost exclusively until I forced myself to learn a bit about PhotoShop.
There are some real advantages to a 40mm lens — especially the weight. The 100 is really heavy and I take way more wobbly shots than good ones 😬😬
Su, you have caught the essence of Autumn. I learnt something new regarding your technique. Many of my “macro” are sections of a photo. I enjoy the Autumn colours.
What fun! I’m trying to decided on an editing app but unsure what to get and how much I want to pay. If I were a professional, it would be one thing, but I’ve gotten used to having Picasa for free (even though they stopped supporting it a few years ago) or using free apps on my iPad.
I got PhotoShop when the boy-child lived with us and he studied photography at high school. I guess it was inertia that made me keep it when he left home, and now that I’m beginning to get the hang of it, I do love it. But I also use free apps on my iPad.
Thanks Jude. Most of my twirls have been really disappointing: either too much white space, or uniformly brown. Putting it together with the original was the hardest part — I really hadn’t grasped how masks work 😬
It always strikes me odd to be reminded the weather is so very different in the Southern Hemisphere. We are struggling to get Spring to stick and stay warm while it is turning colder more gradually where you are.
The weather is so weird here at the moment. It is still really warm, and we haven’t had much rain. I think we’re about to have water restrictions introduced!!!
That has got to be an added burden in a time of quarantine. At least we have nearby reservoirs of water surrounding our state. (Michigan–check out our water retention! Hubba Hubba.) Try not to hate us because we are so pretty and blue.
You captured their aura….nice work Su.
Leslie xoxo

Thanks Jo. Too wet and windy to get outside, so I’ve been playing with PhotoShop (after seeing Jude’s lovely twirly image)

What apps do you like for your iPad? I use Pixlr mostly.

I like Snapseed, and Stackables which doesn’t seem to exist any more so once my iOS moves too far beyond it, I guess it will stop working ☹️

That’s a fabulous twirl Su! And you managed to superimpose the leaves as well, that’s something I still need to work at. Love the colours 😁
