No concert! It’s part of a tableau in a themed garden. It recreates the setting of a short story called “The Garden Party” by Katherine Mansfield. There is a mock tennis court with a marquee and a table laden with “food”. In another part of the garden, there is a 3/4 scale replica of the house, based on Mansfield’s family home in Wellington. The garden itself is designed and planted in the style adopted by affluent New Zealanders of the time. The story was written in 1922.
No it’s free. There are 16 themed gardens, plus a Victorian glass house and extensive lawns and walks. It really is a cool place — somewhere I go as often as I can.
It is fab! https://hamiltongardens.co.nz/
They keep adding new gardens and there’s also a lovely Victorian hot-house and a wee lake, etc. Great place to spend a day.
If you are in the Waikato (with transport) it is also worth a trip to the sculpture park and arboretum at Waitakaruru (near Morrinsville) https://www.sculpturepark.co.nz/ — the owners are absolutely lovely people and the sculpture trail is great.
Lovely Su, it brings to mind when we were living in France, a friend of ours daughter, treated us to an out door cello concert in the country side. It will be in my memory forever – a cherished moment.

That sounds marvelous! Is there a fee to get in?

Hamilton has many delights. Next time I go there I’ll give myself this treat. Mind you, that’s not often 😦

Wonderfully peaceful. I was waiting for the joint to start jumping till I read your comment that it was a tableau 🙂 🙂

It is a bit surreal. The marquee table laden with food looks almost edible, and yet there is a real stillness to the place.

A perfect composition and one full of nuances. I could write a story about this, it prompts lots of ideas.

The theme for the whole garden is Katherine Mansfield’s short story Then Garden Party.’
