That’s the sort of house that’s lovely but in the right atmosphere would also be perfect for a haunted house or some scary supernatural movie 🙂

I’m pretty sure it’s been used more than once in horror movies — including one of Peter Jackson’s early films I think 🤔

That sky! With many of Auckland’s eminent buildings being built in craters that are thought to be dormant, is this the case with Pah Homestead?

The whole city is built on a volcanic field; monogenetic, so once a cone/crater has formed, the next eruption takes place somewhere else in the field. Pah Homestead is on a hilltop, but whether that hill is a very small volcano, I’m not sure.

This is a wonderful and very natural setting for a museum, Su. I love it.

Thanks Peter. The gardens are a wonderful place to visit in themselves.

It was once the largest private home in Auckland, and works surprisingly well as an art gallery

It does. The interior is beautiful, with wonderful ceiling details and cornices and gorgeous polished wooden floors.

Was just listening to Alastair Sooke on his podcast The Way I See It yesterday and he mentioned that in this age, museums are our new churches, where we get away from the hustle & bustle of life where we encounter our spiritual selves. So, I hear you Su.

That’s a really interesting observation. Museums and libraries are definitely places where I feel at peace and contemplative.

Hope they will both reopen for you after this weekend’s change in lockdown status.

Lovely building! I haven’t been to any museums or galleries yet although I believe they’re open with restrictions regarding the number of visitors.

I kept telling myself I’d go to a couple of exhibitions that were extended because of the first lock-down, and now after this one, I’m not feeling all that confident about it.

I’ve heard that many museums offer online tours these days. Of course that’s not the same thing as going in person but a nice show of effort and a good way to compromise I think.
