I understand that, though in different creative contexts — the ones where I set higher standards for myself. With painting, I’m learning to play (something I wasn’t good at as a kid).
I should try it. I have paints that I never use because I know I would expect the same results I can get with pencil, which is not realistic given the amount I get to use pencil.
In that case, try something completely different. Collage, or alcohol inks or making song-inspired sculptures out of old shoes — anything where you can confound the inner critic because there are no “standards” for it to judge you against.
In a cupboard in my office there is a box full of vintage brass lab equipment, Bunsen burners etc, that I rescued from being thrown out. I thought they might be useful for someone who sculpted in metal but am now half-tempted to have a go myself…..
Cool!

Itโs definitely both, for me! And meditative too.

And a good subject for everyday things with Lens Artists? ๐ ๐

Actually it started as that … but didn’t quite fit the brief I’d set myself. ๐

Both for sure.

Good question. Therapeutic when going well but counterproductive on days when feeling especially self-critical!
