Looking at the numbers, it appears she had a decisive win – even though your system, like our’s, fractures the vote with so many parties.
I hope this is very good news for NZ. Her profile is excellent over here for her crisis management. Let’s hope her next term isn’t such a wild ride as the last one.
Thanks Joanne. It’s interesting that most of the smaller parties got very few votes — the exceptions being the Greens and the neo-liberal ACT party. The Maori Party has done well in Maori seats – and that is a good thing I think.
Seems like a positive win. Let’s hope her govt can get on with doing the things it set out to do concerning child poverty and housing without the distractions of the previous year.
Thank you. I really hope so — they have a very strong mandate for progressive social policies. And I hope the Green bloc can do something about our woeful lack of concern for the environment
Oh joy…. I’m SO glad for your people. She was and will continue to be a real beacon. And what wasn’t perfect – – neither are we. Nobody is. (Big sigh here)
Congratulations! All best wishes to her and all New Zealanders! What I haven’t heard yet is if her party has enough votes to get on with their plans. And the new term begins tomorrow?! How I wish we had something similar here. Between 3 November and 20 January’s Inauguration there are roughly 2.5 months.
Thanks Del. It looks like This will be the first government since we introduced proportional representation that can actually govern without forming a coalition. And with a biggish green block, and possibly a couple of seats held by the Maori Party — there should be a strong push towards green/social justice policies.
That seems positive. She generally gets a good press over here.

I’m relieved; mainly because NZ has rejected divisive, nasty politics

Lucky, lucky you. We’re not in a good place here, as you know.

Thanks Joanne. Yes, we’d like a few years without mass shootings, volcanic eruptions and a pandemic 😬

Thank you. Yes, far from perfect — but so much better than the alternative

Avery good thing. Not a perfect government by any means, but one characterised by compassion and clear leadership

That’s how we feel. At least until they get going and prove to be as timid as last time.
